Teaching Opportunities & Career Development

Teaching

Clinical faculty play a vital role in educating the next generation of healthcare professionals. Whether you are new to teaching or an experienced educator, the Faculty of Medicine offers opportunities and resources to help you grow in your teaching role.

Teaching Opportunities

As clinical faculty, you may contribute by:

  • Supervising learners in clinical settings – medical students, residents, fellows, or allied health trainees.
  • Delivering lectures, workshops, or small group sessions within your department or program.
  • Mentoring learners and junior colleagues.
  • Contributing to curriculum development or assessment activities.

Contact your department, school, program, or site administrator for specific opportunities.

Learning to Teach

The Faculty’s Office of Faculty Development offers ongoing resources, supports and programs to enhance your skills in teaching. Resources and sessions are offered both online, and in-person at various dates, times, and locations across BC. They provide practical skills, confidence, and community as you step into or grow your role as a teacher.

For additional resources designed for the broader UBC community of teachers, the UBC Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTLT) offers a variety of programs for faculty members at different stages in their careers.

Career Development

In addition to applying for promotion to higher ranks, the following are available through the Faculty of Medicine to support you in your career development.
