The Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC) together with Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) invites applications for the position of Head, Department of Medical Genetics in the Faculty of Medicine at UBC and Department Head, Medical Genetics at BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre. This position is for a five (5) year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review and is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the University who is currently in a tenure stream faculty appointment at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor in the Professoriate or Educational Leadership stream. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2022, or upon a date to be mutually agreed.

BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre (BCW) within the PHSA is the only facility in British Columbia devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns and families. The Provincial Medical Genetics Program within BCW’s provides specialty genetic consultation through the life span and during pregnancy while contributing to high quality genetic education and research. As an academic health sciences centre BCW’s mandate includes providing strong leadership in research and the education and professional development of health care professionals in areas related to the health of the populations we serve.

The Mission of the UBC Department of Medical Genetics is to pursue basic and clinical research for diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of genetic disease. Our goal is to be a world leader in the research, clinical practice, and teaching of Genetic and Genomic Medicine. The Department is an inspiring and productive community of foundational and clinical scientists, and health professionals, dedicated to providing compassionate care for our patients as well as generating and disseminating knowledge and technical expertise in the field of genetics and genomics.

The successful candidate will bring a proven track record in academic and/or administrative leadership roles, demonstrated success in supporting the career development and mentorship of foundational and clinician scientists, as well as health professionals. In addition, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching and commitment to graduate and clinical education and importantly, evidence of excellence in research and/or educational scholarship in an area related to Medical Genetics. The candidate will also have demonstrated experience in team building, fostering engagement in translational research, and promoting inclusivity across the working and learning environment.
