Program: Master of Physical Therapy – Victoria
Year in Program: 2
What inspired you to pursue your program?
From a young age I’ve always been passionate about health and fitness. I am a true believer that movement is medicine and I always imagined working in a people-centered career. What led me to pursue a career in physical therapy was my volunteer experience as a kinesiology student in Indonesia, where I helped develop exercise programs for children with cerebral palsy and older adults who experienced strokes. This moment made me realize that I desired to know more about physical therapy services and treatments to be able to serve a variety of diverse populations and help create an accessible environment for those with complex conditions.
Why did you choose UBC?
Being born and raised on Vancouver Island, I chose UBC because it would allow me to pursue a career that I’m passionate about while still remaining close to home. I was privileged to be accepted into UBC’s first master of physical therapy (MPT) class in Victoria, which means I get to experience the majority of my placements providing physical therapy services within my community.
What are you most looking forward to this year?
As I wrap up the first year of my program and move into second year, I am looking forward to my upcoming clinical placements. The first year of my program was theory based, so I’m excited to put that knowledge into practice and hope to develop as a practitioner by using my clinical reasoning and newly learned treatment approaches.
