Sean Nugent

Program: Emergency Medicine Residency – Kelowna
Year in Program: 1

What inspired you to pursue your program?

What initially interested me in emergency medicine (EM) was the variety of patient presentations, from pediatrics to geriatrics and from the acutely ill to someone who needs their laceration stitched. That combined with excellent mentors and an awesome team, and I knew EM was for me.

What are you looking forward to most this upcoming year?

Personally, I am looking forward to working on doing some projects inside and outside of my home here in Kelowna. Scholarly, I am looking forward to learning as much as I can about being a resident doctor in emergency medicine. I’m also excited to go to San Diego and Halifax for EM conferences with my colleagues.

Best piece of advice

Quote from Maya Angelou: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

First job

Paper boy in Grade 7 and a construction worker in Grade 11. Construction taught me that it’s much less exhausting to work with your mind than your body.

What’s next on your BC bucket list?

Road trip to the Sunshine Coast with my wife and dog.
