What moment inspired you to choose your field of study?
I was intrigued about the idea of becoming a doctor from a young age, inspired by my own doctors, who were such well-known figures in our small town. As I got older, I knew that I wanted a career where I would be able to make an impact in people’s lives, as well as be challenged on a regular basis. When I got into medical school, I realised that I loved all aspects of medicine and knew that family medicine, with its flexibility and diversity, was the perfect fit for me.
What is your favourite moment from your time at UBC?
There have been so many great memories over the last four years. A definite highlight was my time working with the Healthcare Travelling Roadshow, in which post-secondary healthcare students embark on a province-wide tour of high schools to inspire more rural youth to pursue careers in healthcare. Becoming involved with this initiative, I was fortunate to travel to Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii, promoting healthcare careers to students in rural places alongside an amazing group of learners and faculty.
What’s next for you?
I recently matched to the Prince George Family Medicine program, allowing me to stay and train in the North for another two years. Following that, I am considering pursuing further training in emergency medicine or finding a small, rural BC town to start my career in. I am certainly not jumping to any conclusions just yet though and will be taking each opportunity as they come.
