Kennedy Borle

By sarah stenabaugh | August 31, 2016

Program: MSc in Genetic Counselling
Class of 2018

Hometown: Calgary, Alberta

Kennedy.Borle_214X300What attracted you to your field of study or research?
I’ve always been interested in genetics and bioethics. I had some undergraduate research experience in basic science and realized that as much as I enjoyed research, I wanted a career that allowed me to work more closely with patients. Genetic counselling is the perfect combination of science research and patient care. Genetics is a fast moving field, and it’s very interesting being part of an area of science that is always changing.

What excites you about the upcoming year?
I’m very excited to be starting a program in something that I’m truly passionate about. I’m really looking forward to starting clinical rotations and jumping right into learning. I’m also excited to meet new people, explore Vancouver and experience all of the wonderful things that the West Coast has to offer.

What’s one thing we might be surprised to learn about you?
I have a border line obsession with pugs. They’re just so cute!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years I hope to be working in a patient care setting as a genetic counsellor. Hopefully, I will be settled somewhere in Canada with a dog or two and will have done some more travelling.

Best piece of advice: Do what you love.

Last vacation destination: In May 2016, I went on a trip to Nepal and trekked to Everest Base Camp. It was a life changing experience!
