Joyce.Tull_214X300What attracted you to your field of study or research?
Being able to help others in a medically related field has always been a passion of mine, and communication is such a key factor to how people interact with each other on a day-to-day basis. The complexity of the brain is fascinating to me, and even more so the area of language and how it is processed a lot of the time subconsciously by us!

What excites you about the upcoming year?
Meeting other students who have the same passion as I do and finally being able to learn theories and practical skills for this field. I’m also actually really excited to be digging into textbooks again and learning, as it’s been a while since I’ve been able to do that!

What’s one thing we might be surprised to learn about you?
I love music! I grew up playing the piano and was a huge band geek in junior high and highschool. I played the clarinet and the kettle drums in band and have since learned to play the violin and the guitar as well. I hope to learn more instruments in my lifetime!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Working with children as a speech-language pathologist, married, and maybe a dog?

Best piece of advice: Be quick to listen and slow to speak to anyone and everyone that we interact with. Everyone has their own story and backgrounds that we should appreciate and understand!

Last vacation destination: I had a family vacation to Hawaii where we went to the Big Island and Oahu! I loved seeing lava flow into the ocean and also snorkeling with sea life!
