Hometown: Prince George, B.C.
Program: Master of Physical Therapy – North
Year in Program: 2
What inspired you to pursue your program?
Growing up, I was always involved in sports and fitness but I never saw those activities as exercise. They were a regular part of my life, which is the case for many individuals since physiotherapy allows people to integrate exercise into their daily lives.
In my last year of undergraduate studies, I had a concussion and my physiotherapist helped me see the impact that small, targeted exercises and routine can have. The idea of always trying to positively impact and improve someone’s quality of life drew me to the field.
Why did you choose UBC?
Having grown up in northern B.C., UBC’s distributed sites for the Master of Physical Therapy program allowed me to stay in my hometown, but also branch out and learn about UBC. The focus on case-based, evidence-based learning, along with being in a cohort of 20 people, allowed me to focus on making impact locally while creating meaningful, long-lasting relationships.
What are you most looking forward to this year?
After completing my first clinical placement in the community, I am looking forward to more placements this year, where I can continue to solidify my learning. The theory we learn in class is important, and being able to build and learn from clinicians around the province allows us to develop our own clinical reasoning and practice.
I am also excited to continue to build relationships with individuals around the province in the physiotherapy community.
