Beyond 75: Imagining the future of medicine at UBC
Vancouver
Thank you to everyone who joined us in Vancouver for Beyond 75: Imagining the future of medicine at UBC.
At this special event, more than 150 faculty, staff and learners, as well as health partners from urban, rural and Indigenous communities, came together to celebrate, and share their ideas and hopes for the future.
Dr. Benoit-Antoine Bacon, UBC President and Vice-Chancellor, congratulated the Faculty on 75 years of remarkable achievement. He also acknowledged the challenges and fundamental work that lays ahead — and how the Faculty can continue to transform health for everyone.

“What encourages me most is seeing the ways this Faculty continues to evolve, adapt and find new ways of thinking. And while tonight is a celebration, it’s also an invitation to imagine a future that is bolder, more inclusive and more responsive.”
Dr. Benoit-Antoine Bacon
Dr. Cary Cuncic, Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Fraser, reflected on the Faculty’s incredible commitment to training doctors, health professionals and researchers to meet the evolving healthcare needs of communities across the region.
“Our successes reflect the passion and dedication of the hundreds of faculty, clinical faculty, staff and partners who go above and beyond each day to inspire and train the next generation of healthcare professionals and researchers.”
Dr. Cary Cuncic

Dr. Dermot Kelleher, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Vice-President of Health, UBC, reflected on the remarkable journey of the Faculty, from modest beginnings to one of the top 25 medical schools in the world today. He also shared a personal reflection of what makes the Faculty so extraordinary.

“The magic is relationships. It’s collaboration. It’s people sharing their curiosity, their passion, their experiences and their ideals with the goal of doing better for each and every patient, whatever their needs may be. It’s people coming together across the Faculty of Medicine and with partners, patients and communities, to transform health for everyone.”
