Beyond 75: Imagining the future of medicine at UBC
Northern British Columbia
Thank you to everyone who joined us in Prince George for Beyond 75: Imagining the future of medicine at UBC.
At this special event, faculty, staff and learners, as well as health partners from urban, rural and Indigenous communities, came together to celebrate, and share their ideas and hopes for the future.
Dr. Paul Winwood, Regional Associate Dean, Northern B.C., reflected on the incredible history of the Northern Medical Program, also marking its 20th anniversary. He also spoke about the importance of community partnerships and the lasting impact of medical and health professions training and research opportunities in the North.

“This medical school is here because of community action in the North, and that sense and strength of community carries on today. All of our successes are because of partnership with community.”
Dr. Paul Winwood
Dr. Dermot Kelleher, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Vice-President, Health, UBC, reflected on the remarkable journey of the Faculty, from modest beginnings to one of the top 25 medical schools in the world today. He also shared a personal reflection of what makes the Faculty so extraordinary.
“The magic is relationships. It’s collaboration. It’s people sharing their curiosity, their passion, their experiences and their ideals with the goal of doing better for each and every patient, whatever their needs may be. It’s people coming together across the Faculty of Medicine and with partners, patients and communities, to transform health for everyone.“
Dr. Dermot Kelleher
