Thank you to everyone who joined us in Victoria for Beyond 75: Imagining the future of medicine at UBC.
At this special event, faculty, clinical faculty, staff, learners and alumni, as well as partners from urban, rural and Indigenous communities, came together to celebrate, and share their ideas and hopes for the future.
Dr. Laura Farrell, Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Island, reflected on the incredible contributions of the community and accomplishments of the Island Medical Program, now in its 20th year. She also looked ahead to the future of health education and research on the Island.
“We are here tonight not only to celebrate and reflect, but to think about the future of medicine at UBC, the Island Medical Program, and on Vancouver Island. Our work is far from done. I am excited to continue nurturing collaborative relationships with our partners, supporting education innovation and building on research opportunities.”

Dr. Dermot Kelleher, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Vice-President of Health, UBC, reflected on the remarkable journey of the Faculty, from modest beginnings to one of the top 25 medical schools in the world today. He also shared a personal reflection of what makes the Faculty so extraordinary.
“The magic is relationships. It’s collaboration. It’s people sharing their curiosity, their passion, their experiences and their ideas with the goal of doing better for each and every patient, whatever their needs may be. It’s people coming together across the Faculty of Medicine and with partners, patients and communities, to transform health for everyone.“
