Download the UBC Welcome Guide - a resource for prospective and new faculty and staff of UBC aimed at helping you get acquainted with living in British Columbia and the City of Vancouver, and learning about the various units/ resources at the University.  You may also wish to visit the UBC Work-Life Relocation Services Centre for further information and resources related to relocation and settling in.

About UBC

When you first start at UBC, there are a number of administrative things to be completed including:
  • accept/ sign your offer letter of employment/ appointment confirming your UBC appointment (if applicable)
  • sign up for employment benefits (if applicable)
  • get your UBC photo ID/ library card  and ID for your site (if applicable, e.g. hospital/ building access)
  • determine your  transportation options to / from Point Grey campus (if applicable) or to/ from another site/ location
  • sign up for your Campus Wide Login account and visit the my.ubc.ca portal  to setup / view your profile
  • review/ complete any department-based checklists (e.g., keys, facility tours, business card orders, site orientation).
The University is a large place but there are many tools, resources and websites designed to help you:
  • learn about the university, its history, leadership etc. by attending an orientation  event (various)
  • find a building, address, and search by keyword using the online maps tool (Point Grey campus)
  • find a person, unit, phone number etc. through the  online phone directory  (white & yellow pages)
  • stay up-to-date on events on/ around the university
  • stay up-to-date with current news/ media about UBC.

    About the Dean's Office

    The Dean's Office is composed of over 20 units or divisions (e.g., finance, human resources, communications, MD undergraduate education program) that support the administration and operations of the Faculty of Medicine.  These units are located in various buildings on the UBC Point Grey campus including the Woodward Instructional Resources Centre and the Life Sciences Centre , as well as off-site at places like the Vancouver General Hospital site or one of our distributed medical program site locations.

    As a new department, school or centre Administrator, we aim to create learning tools that will help you perform and excel in your role.  To help you get started, the following may be of interest:
