Trevor Bonneteau

By Alex Hsuan Tsui | August 1, 2025

Hometown: Langley, B.C.
Program: Speech-Language Pathology
Year in Program: 2

What inspired you to pursue your program?

I’ve always been passionate about studying language, problem solving, working creatively and collaborating with others. Speech-language pathology offers a career within a field of need that allows you to have a positive impact on a diverse range of populations across the lifespan. This includes seniors, children and youth within the hospital setting or in the community and schools. When I was introduced to the field after graduating from secondary school it seemed everything had aligned perfectly. After investigating the field more, the positivity and encouragement I received from other speech-language pathologists reaffirmed my choice. I haven’t looked back since!

Why did you choose UBC?

Being able to stay close to my hometown and family throughout my studies has been incredibly meaningful. UBC is one of the most beautiful places in the world to study, full of endless opportunities, whether that be social clubs and events or an opportunity to engage in and learn from cutting-edge research. UBC is globally respected, and being able to study in this community and program is an honour. Thanks to UBC, I have received guidance and teachings from the faculty and my peers that have shaped my learning in ways that will define my future career.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

This year I have the opportunity to apply the personal and professional lessons I have learned over the past year. My first year of courses and placements brought me around the country and was defined by new experiences, helping me look forward to reconnecting and discovering new communities at UBC.

After working in the hospital and in the field of childhood intervention in my first year, I am excited to apply these new experiences throughout my courses. I am excited how this real-world experience will guide the questions I ask, projects and materials I complete, and conversations I will be having next semester.
