Roger Wong, Executive Associate Dean, Education, has been selected by the British Geriatrics Society (BGS) as the 2017 Trevor Howell Guest Lecturer.
Dr. Wong, a geriatrician and clinical professor in the Division of Geriatric Medicine, is the second Canadian — and first UBC professor — to receive this honour, which recognizes eminent physicians or scientists with an international reputation.
As this year’s lecturer, Dr. Wong will deliver a keynote address at the BGS autumn meeting, being held in London from November 22-24. His lecture will focus on sharing lessons from Canada about how to improve acute care for older people.
“It is a privilege for me to represent Canada and the University of British Columbia on the international stage and I look forward to sharing insights about supporting the health care needs of older adults at this year’s annual conference,” says Dr. Wong, former President of the Canadian Geriatrics Society.
The Trevor Howell Guest Lecturer was established in 1989 in memory of Dr. Trevor Howell, founder of the British Geriatrics Society.
