UBC’s 67 postgraduate medical education (PGME) programs underwent the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) on-site accreditation survey, from November 17-22. All UBC PGME programs received the status of “Accredited Program,” and the overwhelming majority will have their follow-up during the next regular on-site survey in 2019.
“The survey team was especially impressed with the strong culture of teaching by faculty at all sites, the remarkable achievement of distributed postgraduate medical education, and the leadership and support for educational initiatives provided by our faculty and staff,” says Dr. Roger Wong, Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education.
Accreditation survey findings highlighted the richness of clinical learning, the tremendous strength of UBC program directors, and the talents and enthusiasm demonstrated by UBC residents. Over the next couple of years, the PGME office will work with programs and partners to optimize clinical case volume to best support clinical learning.
The PGME office is committed to continuous quality improvement and will continue to support programs as they review the accreditation survey findings, build on strengths, analyze opportunities identified for improvement, and implement solutions to ensure residents receive a world-class medical education.
The findings of the on-site accreditation survey are subject to approval by the RCPSC and CFPC Accreditation Committees when they meet in 2014.
