Director, Student Assessment

The Undergraduate Medical Education Program at The University of British Columbia invites applications for the position of Director, Student Assessment. This position provides leadership for the integration, coordination and quality of student assessment components across all years of the Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) Program, ensuring that objectives, milestones, and exit competencies of UGME Program are assessed within a programmatic framework. The time commitment required for this position is 0.50 FTE (2 ½ days per week) for a 3 year term.

The Undergraduate Medical Education Program is comprised of four geographically distinct sites: Island Medical Program (IMP), Northern Medical Program (NMP), Southern Medical Program (SMP), and Vancouver-Fraser Medical Program (VFMP). There are 288 seats for incoming students each year, with 192 attending VFMP. The distributed medical program aims to increase rural and Indigenous students seeking medical careers, while also allowing students to complete their training in rural and underserved communities.

The successful candidate will be expected to regularly review the assessment framework to ensure that student modalities map to curricular objective milestones, UGME exit competencies, and accreditation standards; oversee continuous quality improvement of UGME student assessment modalities; engage faculty in course leadership positions, in collaboration with the Associate Director and Student Assessment Pillar Leads; and support the strategic plans and priorities of the UGME Office and Faculty of Medicine. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the Director of Curriculum, UGME, and other faculty leaders to ensure clear lines of communication are maintained and mutual needs and expectations are met.

The successful candidate will possess an MD and/or PhD and has demonstrated excellence and experience teaching within the MD Undergraduate Program, knowledge of the University of British Columbia UGME Program, and will be familiar with the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical School (CACMS) accreditation standards. The successful candidate will have demonstrated administrative leadership experience, excellent organizational and time management skills, collaborative leadership skills, the ability to work with a diversity of people including students, faculty, and currently hold or be eligible to hold a Faculty of Medicine appointment.
