The Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP) at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the position of Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP) Faculty Development Associate. This is a role requiring a time commitment of 0.05 FTE, equivalent to 110 hours per year, for a one year term, and is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the faculty. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2023, or upon a date to be mutually agreed.
The Undergraduate Medical Education Program is comprised of four geographically distinct sites: Island Medical Program (IMP), Northern Medical Program (NMP), Southern Medical Program (SMP), and Vancouver-Fraser Medical Program (VFMP). There are 288 seats for incoming students each year, with 192 attending VFMP. The distributed medical program aims to increase rural and Indigenous students seeking medical careers, while also allowing students to complete their training in rural and underserved communities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting a faculty development teaching course for family medicine preceptors titled ‘A Day in the Life of a Preceptor’. This course is a longitudinal course that runs from September to June of each year (https://dayinthepreceptorlife.med.ubc.ca/). The VFMP Faculty Development Associate works with the VFMP Faculty Development Director and another faculty lead to deliver, organize and evaluate the course in entirety.
The successful candidate will be a practicing family physician and have experience in teaching and/or assessment with a commitment to the development of medical education in British Columbia. They must also demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and have proven leadership/administrative abilities. Preference will be given to candidates who work in the Vancouver region. Applicants must have a current UBC academic or clinical faculty appointment or be eligible to have an appointment.
