UGME Portfolio Lead, Student Assessment

The Undergraduate Medical Education Office at The University of British Columbia invites applications for the position of Portfolio Lead, Student Assessment. The portfolio program is an “assessment for learning” modality that aims to support students’ professional identity formation by exploring the student experience of clinical care in a safe and supported environment with a small group of their peers and a portfolio coach.

The Portfolio Lead will have a provincial responsibility for ongoing development and delivery of the portfolio assessment modality and will support the UGME Director of Student Assessment by ensuring that objectives, milestones, and exit competencies of the undergraduate program are assessed within a programmatic framework that includes the portfolio assessment modality.

The Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) Program is comprised of four geographically distinct sites: Island Medical Program (IMP), Northern Medical Program (NMP), Southern Medical Program (SMP), and Vancouver-Fraser Medical Program (VFMP). There are 288 seats for incoming students each year, with 192 attending VFMP. The distributed medical program aims to increase rural and Indigenous students seeking medical careers, while also allowing students to complete their training in rural and underserved communities.

The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the Director of Student Assessment to ensure that the portfolio assessment modality is of high quality and will be responsible for the sustainability and continuous quality improvement of portfolio program, liaising with Portfolio Site Leads and/or Faculty Development Leads and administrative staff at all 4 distributed sites of the program.

The successful candidate will hold and MD and/or PhD and have knowledge of UBC’s UGME program, demonstrated excellence and experience teaching within the UGME program, administrative experience, collaborative leadership skills, and excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative negotiation skills. The successful candidate must have, or be eligible to have, a UBC faculty appointment.
