Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Fraser

The Faculty of Medicine at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the position of Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Fraser. This role will require a time commitment of approximately 0.8 FTE which is equivalent to four (4) days per week and is for an initial term of five (5) years with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review. The position is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the University, normally at the rank of Professor or Clinical Professor. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2021, or upon a date to be mutually agreed.

Based in Vancouver and reporting to the Dean of Medicine and the Vice Dean, Education, the Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Fraser will be responsible for ensuring a high-quality educational and inclusive experience for learners in the MD Undergraduate Program in Vancouver Fraser. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing UBC’s academic health vision in Vancouver Fraser and with local health authorities. The MD Undergraduate Program (MDUP) is comprised of four geographically distinct sites: Island Medical Program (IMP), Northern Medical Program (NMP), Southern Medical Program (SMP), and Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP). This role will be responsible for integrating regional medical teaching, training and student research, and ensure alignment with the strategic plans of the Faculty of Medicine and UBC. The incumbent will ensure that regional academic and student research are appropriately resourced in order to maximize and leverage teaching and student research opportunities.

The successful candidate will have an MD or equivalent and have extensive knowledge of medical and health professional education in Canada. The appointee will have significant administrative experience, gained in a University or clinical setting, organizational and time management skills, excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative negotiation skills. The successful candidate will show appropriate standards of excellence and a high quality in teaching, will have received recognition in the field of their sustained and productive scholarly activity, and will have participated significantly in academic and professional affairs.
