The Department of Orthopaedics at The University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, Canada, invites applications for the role of Program Director, Fellowships. This is a 0.1 FTE position (1/2 a day per week) and is for an initial term of two (2) years with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review. The anticipated start date is May 1, 2023, or upon a date to be mutually agreed.
This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.
The Program Director, Fellowships, reports to the Associate Head of Education and to the Head of the Department of Orthopaedics for the overall conduct of the various Orthopaedics Fellowship Programs. They will also provide oversight of Fellowship Directors and Fellowship Mentors. The Program Director, Fellowships will provide direction to the Fellowship Program Coordinator and will provide guidance to other members of the support team to ensure smooth administrative functioning of all Orthopaedics Fellowship Programs as a whole. They will ensure all fellowship programs at UBC maintain a high calibre of fellowship training, and that the clinical, educational and research mandates across all fellowships are aligned. The incumbent will oversee all fellowship programs’ budget and the development, implementation and review of policies related to fellowship programs.
Applicants must hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Orthopaedics. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence and experience teaching within the Fellowship Programs. They will demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous quality improvement. They will have excellent organizational and time management skills, which includes timely replies in electronic and written communication. They will have collaborative leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and administrative leadership. They will work in a collaborative and inclusive manner, building, managing and maintaining high-quality and productive relationships across cultural differences. They will have the ability to recognize and address personal and institutional assumptions and behaviours that create barriers to inclusion. Expertise in UBC Fellowship Programs and experience in curriculum development and delivery will be considered an asset.
