Medical Education Elective Director

The Faculty of Medicine at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the position Medical Education Elective Director. This is a 0.20 FTE (1 day per week) position for an initial one (1) year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review, and is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the Faculty.

The University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine, in collaboration with the Provincial Government, is committed to training the health professionals of the future. The VFMP Medical Education Elective Director is responsible for the planning, development, oversight and continuous improvement of a four-week medical education elective rotation for UBC resident trainees as part of the Royal College’s “Competency by Design” and the College of Family Physicians’ “Residents as Teachers” programs. Working in close collaboration with the VFMP Clinical Skills Directors, the Medical Education Elective Director provides mentorship and support to the residents and is responsible for their assessment.

The Medical Education Elective Director reports to the Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver-Fraser.

The successful candidate will hold an MD or equivalent. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience creating course objectives, ITERs, etc; Knowledge of the UGME curriculum, particularly the Clinical Skills curriculum, preferably with experience in teaching in UGME; Familiarity with the PGME programs at UBC; Interest in pursuing innovative ways of teaching; have administrative experience and excellent organizational and time management skills; and have collaborative leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and administrative leadership.
