MEDD 421 Course Co-Director

The Undergraduate Medical Education Program (UGME) at The University of British Columbia invites applications for the position of MEDD 421 Course Co-Director. This position provides leadership for the integration, coordination, and quality of MEDD 421. This is a shared role requiring a time commitment of 0.20 FTE, equivalent to one (1) day per week, for a two-year term, and is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the Faculty. The anticipated start date is November 1, 2018, or upon a date to be mutually agreed.

The Undergraduate Medical Education Program is comprised of four geographically distinct sites: Island Medical Program (IMP), Northern Medical Program (NMP), Southern Medical Program (SMP), and Vancouver-Fraser Medical Program (VFMP). There are 288 seats for incoming students each year, with 192 attending VFMP. The distributed medical program aims to increase rural and Indigenous students seeking medical careers, while also allowing students to complete their training in rural and underserved communities.

The successful candidate will be expected to oversee the delivery of the MEDD 421 course, participate in the recruitment of faculty as part of the Teacher Selection Process, participate in student assessment with the Educational Assessment Unit and other faculty leads, meet regularly with other Course Directors to ensure effective cross-course integration, and participate in UGME committees as necessary. This position reports to the Associate Director of Curriculum, Years 1 and 2, and through this position is accountable to the Director, Curriculum, in the UGME.

The successful candidate will have an MD and/or PhD, demonstrated excellence and experience teaching within the UGME, knowledge of the Program, knowledge and experience in curriculum development and delivery, familiarity with CACMS accreditation standards, administrative experience, collaborative leadership skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and excellent communication and collaborative negotiation skills. The ideal candidate will hold, or be eligible to hold, a UBC Faculty of Medicine appointment.
