MD Undergraduate Program (MDUP) Provincial Academic Advisor

The Faculty of Medicine at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the position of MD Undergraduate Program (MDUP) Provincial Academic Advisor. This is a 0.20 FTE (1 day per week) position for a three (3) year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to evaluation of program and satisfactory performance appraisal.

The University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine, in collaboration with the Provincial Government, is committed to training the health professionals of the future. The MD Undergraduate Program (MDUP) Provincial Academic Advisor is responsible for providing provincial educational leadership for all academic advisors, master teachers and coaches working with students who require extra support in order to meet their enabling and exit competencies. They will work collaboratively with educational scholarship leaders (e.g. Centre for Health Education Scholarship) to explore innovative ways of supporting learners in difficulty; act as a resource to faculty members providing academic advising to students at the distributed sites; and ensure that all MD Undergraduate Students have academic advising available to them that is comparable across sites and meets accreditation standards.

The Provincial Academic Advisor reports to the Regional Associate Dean, VFMP but is accountable to the Regional Associate Deans at IMP, NMP and SMP.

The successful candidate will hold an MD. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience as a teacher of medical students; extensive experience supporting learners in difficulty; knowledge of learning in medical environments and adult learning; excellent team and communication skills including with faculty students and administrative staff;  excellent organization and time management skills; extensive knowledge of the MDUP; demonstrated ability to build, manage and maintain positive and productive relationships across cultural differences and shows a commitment to equity and inclusion framework to their work.

Applicants must have a current UBC academic or clinical faculty appointment or be eligible to hold a UBC appointment. The Provincial Academic Advisors should not be in position of academic decision-making e.g, Discipline-Specific Site Leader or member of any Regional Student Promotions Subcommittee.

The expected pay (or pay range) for this position is $30,000 per annum at 0.2 FTE.
