The Faculty of Medicine (FoM) at The University of British Columbia (UBC) and The University of Victoria (UVic) invite applications for the position of Family Practice Site Director (Years 1/2) at the Island Medical Program (IMP). This is an administrative role with a two-year term appointment and a possibility of renewal, subject to a satisfactory performance appraisal at the end of the first year. The time commitment is approximately 0.40 FTE, equivalent to 2 days per week. The incumbent must have sufficient protected time during the working week to fulfill the requirements of this role. The position description and FTE level will be reviewed periodically.
This position will report to the UGME Years 1 and 2 Family Practice (FP) Lead on curricular matters and is accountable to the Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Island on site specific matters.
The IMP Family Practice Site Director (Years 1/2) will work collaboratively with local leadership, faculty and staff to plan, organize and deliver the family practice components of the MEDD courses in Years 1 and 2 at IMP.
This position will be responsible for the course leadership, planning, maintenance and delivery of the Family Practice Doctor’s Office visits in Years 1 and 2 at IMP by working collaboratively with the Clinical Skills Site Directors, Family Practice Site Directors, and other IMP course directors and site leadership; Reviews and addresses any evaluation reports of concern in the family practice courses, if required; Ensures that IMP students receive an educational experience in family practice to meet relevant accreditation standards; provides faculty support and development.
The successful candidate will be a local practicing family physician with a commitment to the development of medical education in the MDUP, and an open and flexible approach to collaborative leadership. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching in the IMP is a definite asset, experience assessing and counselling learners, experience in recruiting faculty/teachers is an asset, administrative experience and excellent organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills including experience working within large, complex teams and organizational structures, interest in pursuing innovative ways of teaching family practice content with a commitment to medical education.
The successful candidate must hold a UBC faculty appointment or be eligible to hold a UBC faculty appointment.
