The Faculty of Medicine (FoM) at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invite applications for the position of IMP Faculty Development Director at the Island Medical Program (IMP). This is an administrative role with a two-year term appointment, renewable, subject to a satisfactory performance review. The time commitment is approximately 0.30 FTE, equivalent to 1.5 days per week. The incumbent must have sufficient protected time during the working week to fulfill the requirements of this role. The appointee will be based at the University of Victoria, Medical Sciences Building. This position will will be accountable to, and will report to, the Regional Associate Dean, IMP, for all local matters related to needs assessment, program delivery, instructor support, evaluation and research development. The Director will also have a dotted line report to the UBC Associate Dean, Faculty Development to ensure that faculty development activities align with strategic provincial priorities, to meet faculty development accreditation standards, and to create an environment of supporting faculty development directors in their regional activities. The Faculty Development Director, IMP will provide vision and oversight for all forms of faculty development for members of the medical teaching faculty at the Island Medical Program. The Director will determine appropriate support, resources, programming and training opportunities to facilitate faculty professional growth. The Director will also perform needs assessment, quality and satisfaction surveillance and regular reviews of students’ assessment of teachers to ensure continuous improvement. The Director will design a diverse range of faculty development offerings to support teaching, leadership and research. The Director will be expected to develop a strategy for faculty development within the context of the Island Medical Program mission and promote a culture of teaching excellence. The successful candidate will hold an MD. The successful candidate must hold a UBC faculty appointment or be eligible to hold a UBC faculty appointment. The ideal candidate will have experience working with and/or training physicians in faculty development; demonstrated experience in administration within medical education, experience in teaching and student assessment within the IMP; strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively and provide information to individuals and groups; good organizational and management skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; knowledge of adult learning theory – including instructional design, learning styles, distance learning theories and practices etc; 3-5 years of professional experience working in an institution of higher learning, preferably in the health sciences; demonstrated success leading faculty development efforts in an academic setting.
