Executive Associate Dean, Research

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia invites applications for the administrative position of Executive Associate Dean, Research (EADR). This is a 0.6 FTE position (three days per week) for a five (5) year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review and is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the University. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2020, or upon a date to be mutually agreed upon.

The Faculty of Medicine, together with its partners including B.C.’s Health Authority partners, provides innovative programs in areas of health and life sciences through a province-wide delivery model. The Faculty teaches students at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels and generates more than $360 million in research funding each year.

The EADR will report to the Dean of Medicine. The responsibilities of this position include working to develop, implement and refine the Faculty’s research strategic plan and to determine appropriate metrics and evaluation processes to access its effectiveness and impact in research and innovation. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership for research and innovation programs within the Faculty of Medicine. Additionally, this position will work closely with government and community partners to enhance research at UBC. The EADR will work closely with the Associate Dean, Graduate and Postdoctoral Education to optimize the research environment for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The EADR will provide guidance to and work with the senior leaders within the Research portfolio including the Regional Associate Deans in the Faculty’s distributed sites, Centre Directors in the Faculty, as well as with the Associate Deans at the Health Authority Research Institutes. The EADR will work collaboratively with Department Heads and School Directors to ensure that programs of research are innovative, effective and reflective of the role of the Faculty of Medicine. This position will promote and facilitate provincial, national and international research collaborations for the Faculty of Medicine.

The individual will have demonstrated experience and proven track record in leading a diverse community.
