The Faculty of Medicine (FoM) at The University of British Columbia (UBC), and the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) invite applications for the concurrent positions of Director , Women’s Health Research Institute (WHRI), FOM and Executive Director, WHRI, PHSA. The appointment is for a term of five (5) years with the possibility of renewal for a subsequent term, subject to satisfactory review. The position is expected to be filled by a candidate who currently holds a faculty appointment at UBC or is eligible to hold an adjunct, partner or clinical faculty position in an appropriate academic unit.

WHRI is an independent Research Centre of the FoM, UBC. It was established to enhance and galvanize the impact of women’s health research conducted at BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre and throughout BC. By embracing innovation and living the vision that leading research opens the doors to better health for all women, the WHRI is rapidly becoming the leader in women’s health research. The WHRI facilitates women’s health research in British Columbia and provides a community for women’s health researchers. The WHRI serves as a catalyst for research in women’s health and supporting an expanding provincial and national network of women’s health researchers, policy makers and healthcare providers.

Reporting jointly to the Vice Dean, Research, FoM and the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre, or their designate, the Director, WHRI is responsible for implementing the research strategy, including leading the research priorities of the WHRI and encouraging interdisciplinary research, supporting the research of investigators and research scientists at WHRI, developing and maintaining partnerships to ensure faculty/research scientists are supported by the organization and host institutions to effectively conduct their scholarly activities. The Director will actively pursue opportunities for fund raising and will also put into place mechanisms within the WHRI to directly raise funds for the WHRI, in keeping with the policies and regulations of the University and the FoM. The Director oversees the activities of WHRI, including grants, research contracts, and compliance with UBC research policies. The incumbent will be a member of relevant research committees of the UBC FoM.

Candidates should hold a PhD and/or MD or equivalent in a relevant discipline with a minimum of seven years’ experience in a health research environment including extensive experience in the development and delivery of collaborative research programs in the area of women’s health. Candidates should have a demonstrated track record of significant research achievement, commitment to multi-institute collaborations and ability to value the diversity of contributions from partners. Candidates should possess collaborative leadership skills, administrative experience, and ability to work effectively with learners, trainees, faculty and administrative leadership.
