Director, Teacher Assessment

The Office of Faculty Development and Educational Support at The University of British Columbia invites applications for the position of Director, Teacher Assessment. This appointment is for a two year time with a time commitment equivalent to 1.5 days per week (0.30 FTE) commencing January 1, 2022, or upon a date to be mutually agreed.

The Director, Teacher Assessment lead, implement, and uphold policies, guidelines, and procedures for Teacher Assessment, fulfilling any corresponding accreditation standard(s).

The Office of Faculty Development is dedicated to empowering teachers to be successful by developing a model for educational support that takes into account the needs of teaching at all sites, and teachers at all career stages. Our mandate is to support the mission of the Faculty of Medicine by planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating effective, efficient, sustainable, and flexible educational activities that meet the current and future needs of individual teachers and the Faculty.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Assistant Dean, Faculty Development to provide strategic leadership of teacher assessment, ensuring assessment aligns with strategic priorities and plans of the Faculty and UBC, and is compliant with accreditation standards. They will work closely with the Teacher Assessment Analyst in reviewing individual teacher assessments, reviewing opportunities for improvement to teacher assessment, upholding and reviewing adherence to policies, guidelines, and procedures, and implement procedures to align with accreditation requirements.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of The University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine education programs, a demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence applied through an equity and inclusion framework, the demonstrated ability to build, manage, and maintain positive and productive relationships across cultural differences, the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact with empathy, understanding, and respect of diverse and divergent perspective and behaviours; collaborative leadership skills; administrative experience; and excellent organizational skills. The successful candidate must have, or be eligible to have, a UBC faculty appointment.
