Associate Dean, Faculty Development

The Faculty of Medicine at The University of British Columbia invites applications for the position of Associate Dean, Faculty Development. This role will require a time commitment of approximately 0.7 FTE which is equivalent to 3.5 days per week and is for an initial term of five years with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review. The position is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the University. The anticipated start date is October 1, 2022, or upon a date to be mutually agreed.

This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.

The Associate Dean, Faculty Development will be responsible for leading the Faculty Development network of faculty developers and faculty development programs across the province. The Faculty Development network consists of undergraduate medical education, postgraduate medical education and health professions programs. This position provides support, facilitates communication, and exchanges of faculty development products and ideas; leads multi-site faculty development projects; ensures that faculty development for teaching skills meet or exceed accreditation standards and that faculty development activities align with the strategic priorities and plans of the Faculty and of UBC.

The successful candidate will have an MD degree or equivalent or a PhD and extensive experience in adult education preferred; be familiar with program development and course/accreditation standards preferred; demonstrate commitment to inclusive excellence and applies an equity and inclusion framework to their work; demonstrate ability to build, manage and maintain positive and productive relationships across cultural differences; demonstrate ability to effectively communicate and interact with empathy, understanding and, respect of diverse and divergent perspectives and behaviours; demonstrate teaching excellence; have Clinical practitioner or extensive experience in working successfully with same; have collaborative leadership skills and ability to work effectively with learners, faculty and administrative leadership.
