Assistant Dean, Student Affairs, VFMP

The Undergraduate Medical Program at The University of British Columbia invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean, Student Affairs, VFMP.  This is a 0.5 FTE position (two and a half days per week) for a three (3) year term with the possibility of renewal.

The MD program is comprised of four geographically distinct sites including the Island Medical Program (IMP), Northern Medical Program (NMP), Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP), and the Southern Medical Program (SMP). There are 288 spots for incoming students, 32 for the IMP, NMP and SMP each, and 192 to the VFMP. Student Affairs is a confidential resource for current MD students seeking support, guidance, and advice on a range of issues, including but not limited to: health and well-being, financial planning, career planning, safety, academic support, and mentorship.

The Assistant Dean, Student Affairs, VFMP will report to the Associate Dean, Student Affairs and will be responsible for providing leadership within student services (personal support, academic support, career guidance and preparation) for students in the Vancouver-Fraser cohort.  The successful candidate will be expected to: assist with orientation for each new cohort of Vancouver-Fraser students; meet with students to offer support, advice, and appropriate referrals as required; work with UBC and Faculty of Medicine units to ensure that students are informed and have equitable access to student resources, and; support the strategic plans and priorities of the Student Affairs Office, the MD Undergraduate Program and the Faculty of Medicine. The position will be required to be accessible to students at Vancouver-Fraser clinical academic sites (primarily Gordon and Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre at VGH and Life Sciences Centre at UBC-Vancouver Campus) on a regular basis and will work closely and collaboratively with  staff and faculty across the distributed programs within the MD Undergraduate Program and the Faculty of Medicine.

The successful candidate must hold a MD degree, have a strong understanding of the MD Undergraduate Program, and will have demonstrated experience with advising/counselling students. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong communication skills, will be flexible/accessible to meet students, committed to student success, and have collaborate leadership skills to work effectively with students, faculty, and administrative leadership across multiple sites, and must currently hold a faculty appointment.
