The Faculty of Medicine at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the position of Integrated Community Clerkship (ICC) Associate Site Director, Fraser East in the Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP). This is a 0.3 FTE (1.5 days per week) position for a three (3) year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review, and is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the Faculty.
The Integrated Community Clerkship (ICC) is a year-long, integrated, longitudinal clerkship for Year 3 students at UBC. During this year, the students live locally in smaller communities and receive their clinical training in family doctors’ offices, specialist clinics, and in the local community hospital. They have the opportunity to form meaningful relationships with their preceptors, patients, and community.
The ICC Associate Director, Fraser East supports the planning and organizational responsibilities for Year 3 students in the Fraser East area, centered at Chilliwack and extended into Abbotsford and other Fraser East locations. They are a skilled facilitator, negotiator, and collaborator, reporting to the ICC director, Fraser East, and working synergistically with the ICC Program Director, ICC Expansion Director and ICC Site Directors located at other ICC sites as well as program staff to ensure curricular goals are met. The ICC Associate Director, Fraser East will sit on the ICC Committee.
The ICC Associate Director, Fraser East provides both managerial and academic leadership for a complex program in a dynamic environment. This individual will have credibility with local clinicians, clinical department heads, and UBC program directors, and sufficient educational expertise, commitment to medical education, and adequate protected time to perform the job well. They are ideally situated in Abbotsford to support the local context in contributing to this very successful provincial clerkship program. There are currently six students enrolled and the ICC Associate Director, Fraser East will contribute to the growth of the programme.
The ICC Associate Director, Fraser East reports to the ICC Director, Fraser East and ultimately reports to the Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Fraser and works collaboratively with the ICC Program Director.

Work effectively with the UBC education leaders and administration to implement the UBC curriculum in a geographically distinct site; Coordinate with programs of other learners e.g., UBC Family Practice Residency leadership; Have demonstrated excellence in teaching; Be enthusiastic about educating undergraduate medical students, and regard MD undergraduate student education as a central focus for career development; Have experience with clinical supervision of learners; experience with Year 3 students an asset; Have or willingness to develop a working knowledge of both ICC program and department-specific curricular goals and objectives; Have or willingness to develop an understanding of the pedagogical principles of clinical education at the undergraduate level and be innovative in implementing curriculum effectively in the local context; Be able and willing to provide feedback to colleagues; Have or be willing to develop educational management skills; Demonstrated ability to build, manage and maintain positive and productive relationships across cultural differences and shows a commitment to equity and inclusion framework to their work; Works in a collaborative and inclusive manner, fostering equitable experiences and a respectful environment for all; Creates and fosters an environment that promotes inclusivity and the values of respect, integrity, compassion, collaboration and equity
