Vancouver Fraser Medical Program Simulation Lead

The Faculty of Medicine at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the position of Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP) Simulation Lead. This is a 0.2 FTE (1 day per week) position for a three (3) year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to a satisfactory performance appraisal after one year and is renewable.

The University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine, in collaboration with the Provincial Government, is committed to training the health professionals of the future. The Vancouver-Fraser Medical Program (VFMP) Simulation Lead will develop, coordinate and oversee simulation activities at the Vancouver-Fraser Medical Program (VFMP). This position works collaboratively with the Simulation Leads at the Island Medical Program (IMP), Northern Medical Program (NMP), and Southern Medical Program (SMP) to plan and develop a simulation curriculum in the Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME). The position also serves as a liaison with Postgraduate Medical Education.

The VFMP Simulation Lead reports to the Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver-Fraser. Meets regularly with the Associate Dean, UGME and other faculty leads to ensure clear lines of communication are maintained and mutual needs are met.

The VFMP Simulation Lead will be responsible for Program Development and Improvement by conducting regular reviews of simulation capacity in the Lower Mainland Region and works with Clerkship Directors, Site Directors, and DSSLs to develop simulation opportunities; making recommendations to the Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver-Fraser, about resources required for UGME simulation at VFMP; promoting simulation as an educational tool.

The VFMP Simulation Lead will be responsible for Curriculum by working collaboratively with the Simulation Leads at the distributed sites to facilitate the planning and development of a simulation curriculum across all four years of the curriculum; working with VFMP course leads (course directors, clerkship directors and Discipline Specific Site Leaders (DSSLs) {as representatives of Departments}) to develop and integrate simulation sessions into the curriculum, including, but not limited, to:

• Years 1 and 2: Clinical Skills

• Year 2 – TICE (MEDD422)

• Year 3 – Clerkships – ad hoc if requested by specific departments

• Year 4 – TIPP (MEDD448)

The VFMP Simulation Lead will be responsible for Student Assessment by working with the Student Assessment Subcommittee (SAS) to develop assessment modalities for simulation, as required, etc.

The successful candidate will hold an MD or equivalent. The ideal candidate will have experience in medical simulation curriculum and knowledge of the UGME Program at UBC; demonstrated ability to build, manage and maintain positive and productive relationships across cultural differences and shows a commitment to equity and inclusion framework to their work; have collaborative leadership and negotiation skills and excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with large, complex teams and organizational structures and have excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to work in a collaborative and inclusive manner, fostering equitable experiences and a respectful environment for all and create and foster an environment that promotes inclusivity and the values of respect, integrity, compassion, collaboration and equity.

The expected pay (or pay range) for this position is $30,000 per annum at 0.2 FTE.
