The MD Undergraduate Program (MDUP) in the Faculty of Medicine at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the position of VFMP Site Education Leader, Surrey Site. This is a three-year term appointment with a time commitment of 0.3 FTE, equivalent to 1.5 days per week, and is renewable subject to satisfactory review. The incumbent must have sufficient protected time during the working week to fulfill the requirements of this role.
The UBC Faculty of Medicine plays a critical role in training the health professionals of the future. Students in the accredited Doctor of Medicine (MD) undergraduate program have the opportunity to learn medicine at one of four geographically distinct program sites – Island Medical Program (IMP), Northern Medical Program (NMP), Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP), and the Southern Medical Program (SMP), where they gain invaluable training and mentoring from highly skilled clinicians.
Within the Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP), students may be admitted into geographically distinct learning communities. The Fraser Learning Community includes students who complete the majority of their clerkship training within the Fraser region and provides opportunities for strong connections with community, faculty, staff, and peers throughout medical school.
This position provides academic, managerial, and administrative leadership for undergraduate medical education at Surrey Memorial Hospital. The Surrey Site Education Leader supports learner experiences, including Year 3 clerkship rotations, Year 4 electives, and increasing Year 1 and Year 2 educational opportunities for students in the Fraser Learning Community.
The successful candidate will hold an MD or PhD and must hold, or be eligible to hold, a faculty appointment at the University of British Columbia (UBC). The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of:
- Experience teaching within the UBC MD Undergraduate Program
- Strong leadership, organizational, and planning skills in complex academic or clinical environments
- Knowledge of the MD Undergraduate Program curriculum and clinical education principles
- Ability to collaborate with clinical faculty, hospital leadership, and health authority partners to support medical education
- Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
- Commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments and applying an equity, diversity, and inclusion framework to their work
