Regional Associate Dean, Interior

The campus is home to approximately 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students, 2,300 faculty and staff, 8 Faculties and Schools, over 18 Research Centres and 1,200 active research projects.

The UBC Faculty of Medicine is fast becoming the largest and most dynamic and innovative in North America.  Teaching and research are delivered province-wide through 19 departments, three schools, and 24 research centres and institutes, by approximately 650 full-time academic and more than 9,000 clinical faculty members. In addition to the Vancouver campuses, the Faculty has distributed programs in Victoria, Prince George and Kelowna, and clinical teaching sites across the province.

Reporting to the Dean of Medicine and the Executive Associate Dean, Education, along with the Provost for the Okanagan Campus, the Regional Associate Dean, Interior will be based in Kelowna and be responsible for ensuring a high-quality educational and research experience for faculty as well as all learners and trainees in the Interior. The successful candidate will play the central role in developing UBC’s academic health vision in the Southern Medical Program (SMP), UBC Okanagan (UBCO) and Interior Health (IH). The Regional Associate Dean also sits as a member of Deans Council for the Okanagan Campus and is an important participant in the academic leadership of the Campus.

The successful candidate will have an MD and have extensive knowledge of medical and health professional education in Canada. With experience in, and a deep appreciation for, health research, the successful candidate will provide leadership and mentorship to grow research activity within the SMP.  The appointee will have significant administrative experience, gained in a University or clinical setting, organizational and time management skills, excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative negotiation skills. The successful candidate will show appropriate standards of excellence and a high quality in teaching, will have received recognition in the field of their sustained and productive scholarly activity, and will have participated significantly in academic and professional affairs.

The successful candidate must qualify for and will be offered a full-time UBC appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The RAD, Interior position is an academic appointment that is for a five (5) year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
