Head, Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the position of Head, Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy. This position is for a five (5) year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review and is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the University who is currently in a tenure stream faculty appointment at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor in the Professoriate or Educational Leadership stream and is registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2023, or upon a date to be mutually agreed.

This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 to be provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.

The UBC Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy is home to 22 academic faculty members, over 40 administrative and technical support staff members, and approximately 400 clinical faculty and associate members. The Department’s mission is to create, inspire and uphold a scholarly community that contributes to the health of individuals and communities through research on occupation and education programs for occupational therapy students, health professionals, and scientists. Through the continued support of its academic, clinical, student, and alumni community, the Department strives to realize its vision of “health and participation for all.”

The successful candidate will bring a proven track record in academic and/or administrative leadership roles, demonstrated success in supporting the career development and mentorship of faculty members, demonstrated excellence in teaching and commitment to undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate education, and demonstrated excellence in research and/or educational scholarship in an area related to Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy. The candidate will also have demonstrated experience in team building, fostering engagement and promoting inclusivity across the working and learning environment. The successful candidate will also have the experience to create academic integration of teaching and research into clinical service delivery and Health Human Resource Planning, particularly in areas of academic expertise. In addition, the successful candidate should have the ability and skills to work with Health Authority leadership and other institutional partners. The successful applicant will show evidence of building, managing and maintaining high-quality and productive relationships across cultural differences, and having the ability to communicate and interact with empathy, understanding, and respect of diverse perspectives and behaviours.
