Director, Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health

The Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia (UBC) and the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI) invite applications for the position of Director, Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health (http://www.centreforbrainhealth.ca). This appointment is for an initial term of (5) years with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review and is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the University, at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2020 or a date to be mutually agreed upon.

The Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health (DMCBH) is the most comprehensive brain care and research centre in Canada, bringing together experts in the fields of neuroscience, neurology, and psychiatry to explore the complexities of the human brain. A partnership of the Vancouver Coastal Health and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia, the DMCBH is the culmination of a vision and partnership to advance research and patient care—all under the same roof. This integrated approach will accelerate the transformation of new knowledge into practical solutions that will help save and lengthen lives and improve quality of life, helping to establish British Columbia as a world leader in brain health.

Reporting jointly to the Executive Associate Dean, Research, in the Faculty of Medicine, UBC and the Executive Director of VHCRI, the Director of CBH assumes overall responsibility for the strategic direction and operation of the Centre. The Director will seek out and identify opportunities for funding of the CBH research program and coordinate applications to granting agencies and industry and be responsible for fostering and maintaining the interactive, interdisciplinary nature of the CBH research program. In addition to the responsibilities embodied within the Directorship, the incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining an active research program.

The successful candidate will hold a MD and/or PhD, or an equivalent level of training with a documented ability to obtain research funding and display exceptional organizational and administrative skills. Demonstrated scientific leadership, outstanding educational contributions, a strong research track record, demonstrated experience in mentoring and training junior investigators and the ability to maintain effective working relationships in an interdisciplinary environment are essential.
