Basic Clinical Year Site Director for Victoria Site

The Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) office in the Faculty of Medicine at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for the position of Basic Clinical Year (BCY) Site Director at the Victoria site. This is a three-year term appointment, with an approximate 0.30 FTE (1.5 days per week) time commitment, renewable twice at the discretion of the Assistant Dean, Engagement and Regional Support, PGME. The time commitment will be determined based on funding guidelines, and administrative support is provided.

The UBC Faculty of Medicine plays a critical role in training the health professionals of the future. Students in the accredited Doctor of Medicine (MD) Undergraduate Program (MDUP) have the opportunity to learn medicine at one of four geographically distinct program sites – Island Medical Program (IMP), Northern Medical Program (NMP), Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP), and Southern Medical Program (SMP) – where they gain invaluable training and mentoring from highly skilled clinicians.

This position will be responsible for, but not limited to, building, managing and maintaining high-quality and productive relationships across cultural differences, reviewing of the program to assess the quality of the educational experience, and reviewing the resources available in order to ensure that maximal benefit is derived from the integration of the components of the program.

The successful candidate will hold a faculty appointment at UBC and an MD and/or equivalent clinical qualifications. The ideal applicant will demonstrate experience in:

  • Proven leadership in postgraduate medical education or residency training.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with residents, faculty, staff, and partners.
  • Coordinates activities and planning PGY-1 Program Directors at any of the 3 sites (Victoria, RCH or SPH).
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and fostering a collaborative and respectful learning environment.
  • Ability to coordinate complex educational programs across multiple sites.

This position reports to the Assistant Dean, Engagement and Regional Support, Postgraduate Medical Education, UBC Faculty of Medicine.
