Assistant Dean, Student Affairs, Northern Medical Program (NMP)

The Undergraduate Medical Program at The University of British Columbia invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean, Student Affairs, Northern Medical Program (NMP). This is a 0.5 FTE position (two and a half days per week) for a three-year term with the possibility of renewal.

The Assistant Dean, Student Affairs, NMP, will report to the Associate Dean, Student Affairs and will be responsible for providing leadership within student services (personal support, academic support, career guidance and preparation) for students in the Northern region. The successful candidate will be expected to: assist with orientation for each new cohort of NMP students; meet with students to offer support, advice, and appropriate referrals as required; work with UBC and Faculty of Medicine units to ensure that students are informed and have equitable access to student resources, and; support the strategic plans and priorities of the Student Affairs Office, the MD Undergraduate Program and the Faculty of Medicine. The position will be required to be accessible to students at Northern clinical academic sites (primarily Donald Rix Northern Health Sciences Centre) on a regular basis and will work closely and collaboratively with staff and faculty across the distributed programs within the MD Undergraduate Program and the Faculty of Medicine.

The successful candidate must hold a MD degree, have a strong understanding of the MD Undergraduate Program, and will have demonstrated experience with advising/counselling students. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong communication skills, will be flexible/accessible to meet students, committed to student success, and have collaborate leadership skills to work effectively with students, faculty, and administrative leadership across multiple sites, and must currently hold, or be eligible to hold, a faculty appointment.
