A part of the UBC Faculty of Medicine's MD undergraduate medical program, the Island Medical Program or IMP, is based at the University of Victoria, and is part of a unique provincial plan to increase the number of new physicians in British Columbia and to encourage them to establish their practices in less populous areas of the province.
With the expansion of the undergraduate teaching program, new state of the art facilities were built at UVic (& UNBC) to accommodate an additional number of students for part of their medical training.
