Postgraduate Medical Education

The Office of the Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education administers the family medicine and the 64 specialty and subspecialty training programs recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the College of Family Physicians of Canada .

All programs use resources in the university affiliated tertiary care hospitals in Vancouver (St. Paul's, Vancouver General Hospital 12th & Oak Pavilions, Vancouver General Hospital - UBC Pavilions, B.C. Children's and B.C. Women's Hospital). A number of local, regional and more remote smaller community hospitals have been successfully integrated into such programs as family medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology and general surgery.

Applications

Application for entry level postgraduate positions in all primary certification programs at UBC is made through the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS).

Application for R-3 CFPC- Emergency Medicine programs at UBC are made through the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS).

Application for R-4 SubSpecialty Medicine and Adult Critical Care programs at UBC are made through the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS)

Graduates of Foreign Medical Schools must be Landed Immigrants or Canadian citizens prior to date of application and must fulfill the prerequisites outlined on the CaRMS website.

All other applications should be made directly to the Program Director .

Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam

All residents are encouraged to have taken, or succeed as soon as possible, in the MCCQE-I examination.

All residents are encouraged to take the MCCQE-II after their first clinical year, rather than wait until later in their residency.

It is necessary to have the MCCQE-II to obtain a full license in the province of British Columbia.
