Director of Curriculum, UGME

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is pleased to invite applications for the position of Director of Curriculum, Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME). This is a 0.5 FTE (two and a half days per week) position for a three-year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to a satisfactory review. The position is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the Faculty and the anticipated start date is January 1, 2018, or upon a date to be mutually agreed.

The Faculty of Medicine, in collaboration with the Provincial Government, is committed to training health professionals of the future. The Director of Curriculum, UGME, will report to the Associate Dean, UGME, and will meet regularly with the Associate Directors, Curriculum for Years 1 & 2 and Years 3 & 4, as well as other faculty leaders. The incumbent will be expected to provide a cohesive and comprehensive student experience by regularly reviewing the curricular map to ensure the effective functioning of the curriculum. In addition, the Director of Curriculum will ensure that the curriculum meets the UGME’s Exit Competencies, is in compliance with the Committee on Accreditation of Medical Schools (CACMS) accreditation standards and that all content areas are effectively integrated and spiraled within and across sites, courses, and academic periods of study. More specifically, the Director will oversee quality improvement of curriculum and related curricular activities and processes and will work with the Associate Directors, Curriculum to develop, implement and review the curriculum. These activities will include building sufficient capacity at clinical teaching sites with particular attention to development and support of educational leadership and teacher recruitment. Liaising with System and Themes leads, the Director will ensure that themes and systems are integrated effectively across the curriculum including with other systems, themes, and clinical experiences. The Director is expected to work collaboratively with the administrative and technology teams to help achieve curricular goals.

Applicants must hold a MD (and be Royal College or CFPC certified) and/or hold a PhD. The successful candidate will have experience and demonstrated excellence as a teacher, experience in curriculum development and delivery, and be familiar with CACMS accreditation standards. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, show proven administrative ability combined with outstanding communication skills.
