Director, Career Planning

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia is pleased to invite applications for the position of Director, Career Planning. This is a 0.30 FTE (will average 1½ days per week) position for a three- year (3) term with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review, and is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the Faculty. The anticipated start date is November 1, 2017, or upon a date to be mutually agreed.

The University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine, in collaboration with the Provincial Government, is committed to training the health professionals of the future. The Director, Career Planning provides career-related programming to students in the MD Undergraduate Program (MDUP) across all sites and gives advice and support to the Associate and Assistant Deans, Student Affairs, and the Year 3 and Year 4 Program Directors. The Director, Career Planning reports to the Associate Dean, Student Affairs, and through this position reports to the Executive Associate Dean, Education. The Director, Career Planning plays a crucial role in ensuring a relevant and developmental Career Planning Program is in place for each year of the MD Undergraduate Program at all sites and that medical students are supported and kept informed on all matters related to career development and application to residency programs through CaRMS. The time commitment is not in blocks and will depend on the needs of the students and Student Affairs team. It may take place out of traditional working hours.

The successful applicant will be a clinician with experience in and enthusiasm for supporting students with their personal and career goals through advising and/or counselling. The ideal candidate will have or develop a good knowledge of career development and the CaRMS application process and be able to work with the Student Affairs teams at all sites.
