UBC Faculty of Medicine academic programs are provided at UBC’s Point Grey campus, the University of Victoria, the University of Northern British Columbia, and starting in 2011, at UBC-Okanagan.
Students also receive much of their education from clinical faculty at a variety of medical facilities throughout the province, providing them with experience in urban, regional, community and remote settings. These facilities include Clinical Academic Campuses, which can provide a wide range of care or can be highly specialized, and Affiliated Regional Centres, which accommodate smaller numbers of students. Each facility is operated by one of the province’s six health authorities, who are critical partners in UBC’s effort to increase the number of doctors in British Columbia.
In addition to the Clinical Academic Campuses and the Affiliated Regional Centers, students receive training at Community Education Facilities, which include primary care hospitals and agencies throughout the province, and at dispersed sites, which include clinics, diagnostic and treatement centres, health centres, other agency sites and physicians’ offices.
