Policy on Clinical Faculty Appointments (Approved July 21, 2015)

Each department and school has its own Clinical Faculty Appointment and Promotion Committee, and follows a set of recommended guidelines in making decisions.

Substantive changes are:

  • The definition of Clinical Faculty was revised to include clinicians licensed and practicing in another province if they are supervising clinical placements of Faculty of Medicine learners.
  • The stream-lined appointment process for new Clinical Instructors in the MD Programs was extended to all programs in the Faculty of Medicine.
  • The termination clause was amended so that UBC may terminate an individual’s Clinical Faculty appointment if his/her license to practice is suspended or cancelled.

Compensation Terms for Clinical Faculty Teaching in the MD Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs (July 1, 2015 - June 30, 2017)

This document applies only to Clinical Faculty teaching in the MD Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs.

Substantive changes are:

  • Compensable Teaching Activities have been added for the Curriculum Renewal in years one and two of the MD Undergraduate Program.
  • Expenses related to Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching must be pre-approved.
  • On-Call Invoices must be submitted by December 31 for the immediately prior academic year, July 1st to June 30th.

Compensation Terms for Standing Committees and Search Committees for Senior Leadership (November 17, 2015 - June 30, 2017)

This document applies to Clinical Faculty in all programs in the Faculty of Medicine.

The substantive change is:

  • Compensation for Search Committees for Senior Leadership is based on the number of units (hours), to a maximum of 15 units.

Eligible Clinical Faculty members teaching in the MD Programs invoice for their On Call teaching.

The On Call Invoice Template (DOCX) for the period July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016 must be received by December 31, 2016. Please refer to the submission instructions on page 2.
