Assistant Dean, Professionalism

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia invites applications for the position of Assistant Dean, Professionalism. This is a 0.4 FTE position (two days per week) for a one (1) year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to satisfactory review and is expected to be filled by a candidate internal to the University. The anticipated start date is April 1, 2018, or upon a date to be mutually agreed upon.

The Office of the Executive Associate Dean, Clinical Partnerships and Professionalism is both legally and morally committed to the principles of fairness and to making the Faculty of Medicine a leader in dealing with equity issues.

The Assistant Dean, Professionalism will report to the Executive Associate Dean, Clinical Partnerships and Professionalism and will work closely with unit Heads in the resolution and prevention of concerns and complaints across all sites of the provincial Faculty of Medicine. Additionally, this position will also work closely with the Executive Director, Faculty Affairs on issues that involve faculty members or issues that violate UBC Policies. The position supports academic leaders including Department Heads and School Directors and provides guidance on potential issues that may violate the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry’s Professional Standards for Learners and Faculty Members. In collaboration with the Executive Associate Dean and members of the Education portfolio, the Assistant Dean, Professionalism will also review, develop, implement and provide educational programs regarding professionalism, harassment, intimidation, gender, diversity and equity issues for undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, postgraduate trainees and faculty members in the Faculty of Medicine.

The successful candidate will have suitable education and experience in health, education and/or law, with demonstrated leadership skills. Skills in working collaboratively, excellent interpersonal skills, proven administrative ability and outstanding communication skills are also essential.
